PhD or MD/PhD position (E13 TV-G-U, 65%)

The Institute of Vascular Signalling, Centre for Molecular Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Goethe University Frankfurt and the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research, Department of Pharmacology, Bad Nauheim, seek an enthusiastic and highly motivated PhD or MD/PhD candidate (E13, 65%) to study the autoantigen repertoire (proteins and microproteins) and immunomodulation in cardiovascular disease. Start date: April 2023.

The position requires the following:

  • Participation in a recently funded collaborative research project within the DFG Cluster of Excellence CardioPulmonary Institute focusing on the identification of proteins and microproteins as autoantigens mediating immunomodulatory functions in cardiovascular disease. The project involves work in vivo (models of cardiovascular disease) as well as in vitro (human cells).
  • Integration of RNA-sequencing and mass spectrometry technologies.Integration of RNA-sequencing and mass spectrometry technologies.
  • Collection of experimental data, analysis and documentation of results and preparation of material for publication.

We offer:

  • A thematic high-level project in an internationally recognized group (www.ivs.uni-frankfurt.de) that is part of the DFG Cluster of Excellence “CardioPulmonary Institute” (www.cpi-online.de), SFB 1531 and the German Center for Cardiovascular Research (www.DZHK.de).
  • An international and inclusive environment promoting curiosity and critical thinking leading to impactful scientific discoveries.
  • Association with a graduate school (https://sfb1531.de/programme) providing the specific know-how necessary for performing cutting edge science in cardiovascular biology and mentoring for personal development.
  • Modern research buildings with state-of-the-art facilities and analysis possibilities from integrative physiology to mass spectroscopy in Frankfurt and Bad Nauheim.

Requirements:

  • A completed, very good MSc in biology, biotechnology, molecular medicine or an equivalent discipline or a completed degree in medicine including an experimental thesis (Dr. med.). An inclination for immunology is desired.
  • Experience with in vivo models of atherosclerosis and/or myocardial infarction is an advantage.
  • Training in cell culture, molecular biology and biochemistry techniques.
  • Excellent self-organization and ability to work in a team.
  • Excellent written and spoken English is essential.

Applications including a cover letter, CV, degree certificates and transcripts of BSc and MSc or experimental degree in medicine and the names and contact details of 3 referees (in a single PDF file) should be submitted as one PDF in electronic form to Dr. Mauro Siragusa (Siragusa@vrc.uni-frankfurt.de) by February 28th 2023.
